The teaser is a reference to black and white. In the opening of the teaser, the antagonist, Nana Patekar, dressed in white, asks: “What sort of a name is Kaala?”, in a tone that clearly suggests his disrespect to the one who he is addressing. Kaala, a short for Kaarikaalan, dressed in black, sits like a king on a chair with his chest expanded wide. Rajinikanth‘s answer: “Uzhaippin vannam Karuppe (The colour of the working class is black).”
Rajinikanth portrays gangster Kaala Karikaalan in Pa. Ranjith directed movie. Through this first glimpse, we see Rajinikanth as Kaala who heads a community in Mumbai, challenging the opposition in immortal rage and confidence. Much like Kabali, Rajinikanth plays a role closer to this real age and is quite the ageing done.
Kaala boasts of a huge star cast: Super Star Rajinikanth, Nana Patekar, Eswari Rao, Huma Qureshi, Samuthirakani, Anjali Patil, Dhileepan, Pankaj Tripathi, Ravi Kale, Sakshi Agarwal, Sukanya, Prakash Raj.
The movie is written and directed by PA Ranjith. Santhosh Narayanan scores the music and the cinematography is handled by Murali G. The movie is getting bankrolled by Dhanush under the banner of Wunderbar films and Sreekar Prasad is in charge of the edits. Kaala is also the return of the Santhosh Narayanan and Rajinikanth combination, after 2016’s Kabali.
